"I am interested in the familiar and the unexpected, the real and the fantastic, the understated and the obsessive, the ancient and the space aged, nature and artifice, art and craft."

Intimations of Mortality
In early March of 2020, I received an invitation from the Messler Gallery-part of the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship to make a piece for a croquet-themed exhibition slated for June-October of that year.
I started with an idea to create a device to divine who to vote for in the upcoming presidential election based on advice from several carved talking heads, but that eventually morphed into this piece which focuses on the rhetoric surrounding the subject of immigration, migrants, and the border wall.
I have prepared this blog post to talk about how the work came together. What you make of it is up to you.
